imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

Today’s post is all about the art of duplication!

My client, Kathy, had been on the hunt for some bedroom furniture for her guest bedroom. After coming up empty handed at the big box retailers, she reached out to me for some help. Already appointed with a beautiful bed, Kathy was looking for something to compliment the ice blue colors of the gorgeous bed linens she already had. It’s a good thing I had this beautiful antique hepplewhite dresser in stock, because it was a perfect fit!

After some back and forth and a trip from my Personal Assistant (aka Bethy… aka Mom) I had the hepplewhite dresser, the nightstand that was already in the guest room (sorry, no before picture!) and one of her pillow shams safely in my shop.

After some back and forth about the range of color, we decided on a custom blend of Annie Sloan’s Louis Blue and Pure White.  The process was pretty standard, some light sanding upfront, base coat, 2 color coats and 2 coats of varnish on the body and 3 on the top.

Since we painted the top, I went with my favorite topcoat, Beautiful™ Furniture Seal by Harrell Art Group. It’s so smooth and durable, you could ice skate across it! Well, maybe if you were a very, very tiny person. (This is not a plug, I just really love this product.)

I updated both sets of hardware with my go-to Rustoleum spray and finished off with two coats of poly to ensure no chipping over time.

I kept this staging light and sweet, an old toolbox I picked up at the flea market filled with boxwood, an Emily Dickinson doodle I made awhile back and my favorite mini cloche (coolest word EVER!) I also created this simple triangle bunting with some twine and pages from an old user’s manual for something or other we had lying around.

HW1 HW2 HW3 HW4 HW5 HW6Do you have anything in your home – big or small – that inspires you? For me it’s vintage blue glass. Soda bottles, mason jars, sea glass… the shades of turquoise speak to me!

Have a good week everybody!

All my love,
